THE BEATON SISTERS

About Dawn and Margie

Traditional music has been a considerable part of the girls’ lives since day one. Coming from a musical heritage of singers, dancers, and fiddlers, it was a natural progression to learn both step-dancing and the violin at an early age (4 and 6). Being of Scottish descent and growing up in the vibrant community of Mabou, both girls took the Gaelic language as a course both in high school and University.

Both sisters have dedicated over three decades to the fiddle and step dancing. Music has always been central to their life, deeply influenced by her parents, relatives, and the lively community she grew up in. In 2008, Dawn and Margie released their first album, "Taste of Gaelic." This debut quickly opened doors, leading them to perform at the renowned Lorient Interceltique Festival in France. Since then, they've shared their talents and taught in various countries, including Scotland, England, Brazil, China, Ireland, and the United States. Their achievements also include a Nova Scotia Music Week nomination and an ECMA award for Roots/Traditional Duo or Group Recording of the Year in 2010.
